Music
The cattle-rearing Maldharis spend most of their day in pastures with their cattle. Music is a pleasurable means of whiling away those lonely hours. Their traditional folk songs express love for nature and the almighty. Bheth, Vaai, Kaafi, Daastan, Aaradhi and Maulood are some of the forms of gayaki (singing style), each sung in a unique form, based on the content and the mood of the song.
The folk tradition here also shows an influence of Sufi gayaki. Sufi love songs of the famous Sindhi poet Shah Abdul Latif are commonly sung by musicians in almost all gayakis. Muslim communities mainly sing Bheth (2- or 4-line pieces usually sung before the main Kaafi or Daastan rendition), Vaai (most ancient style of singing) and Daastan (song depicting a tale), whereas AaradhiVaaniKaafi (religious songs) and are popular amongst the Hindu communities.
The traditional instruments include JodiyaPava, Bhorrindo, Morchang and Surando.
